Designer Radiator Breakdown: Fronts and Styles Available

What are the different styles of designer radiators?

Here at Stelrad, we have a large range of designer radiators. To help you find the right radiators for your home, we’ll look at how to match designer radiators with home décor and how to choose the best heat output radiator for each room.

Take a look at some of the different styles of designer radiators available in our range. If you want some inspiration, browse our blog to find the various radiator styles on offer. We have guides on how to help you find the best radiators for older homes, along with modern builds.

Designer Electric Radiators

With their stylish look and modern designs, designer electric radiators are a popular choice in homes. They’re available in various sleek designs, including flat panels and column styles which look great in modern properties. Towel rail radiators are a great choice for bathrooms and kitchens as you can warm towels while also heating the room and minimising damp.

One of the added benefits of designer electric radiators is that they are programmable, which gives you greater control over the individual heat output of each radiator. You can heat the rooms that you’re in, without using additional energy to heat rooms that are unused. To adjust the temperature on your radiator, find the thermostatic radiator valve (TRV) and set it to your desired temperature. Some smart heating systems also allow you to adjust the temperature remotely with a smartphone app.

Electric radiators can be used in houses or spaces (such as garages and outbuildings) that don’t have central heating. You can either choose wall-mounted electric radiators or have free-standing models, depending on the floor space and layout of the room.

Vertical Radiators

Vertical radiators are an ideal choice if you have limited floor space as these radiators travel up the wall rather than along them. Their sleek space-saving design allows vertical radiators to fit in tall, narrow spaces while still offering the same heat output. They’re a great option for hallways and other narrow areas that a larger radiator wouldn’t fit in but that you still want to heat.

Our vertical radiators are available in flat multiple designs, including panel, lined panel, and column styles. They make a good choice for both modern and contemporary interiors thanks to their timeless look and the flexible options for where they can be positioned.

High Output Radiators

As per their name, high output radiators provide powerful heating, which is ideal for large rooms and poorly insulated spaces. You can use our handy heat loss calculator to work out which radiators are best to heat each room in your home. You’ll need to factor in the size of the room, how well insulated it is and how many exterior walls the room has.

If you have a radiator with a heat output that’s too low, your boiler and radiator will have to work overtime to produce enough heat to warm the room. This will cost you more in energy bills and could cause cold spots to form in the room.

High output radiators are typically best for large rooms such as living rooms and open plan spaces, along with poorly insulated spaces such as conservatories and hallways. It’s important to remember that not every room needs high output radiators, as they could cause the rooms to get too hot and use more energy than is needed.

Radiator Finishes & Colours

Here at Stelrad, we have a wide range of radiator finishes and colours to suit the interior of your home. Whether you’re a fan of traditional white or prefer a vibrant colour, we have a wide range of finishes and colours to choose from. Take a look at some of our radiator colours and finishes below.

White Radiators

Keep things classic with white radiators. Thanks to their traditional look, white radiators suit any home interior, whether it’s a modern build or an older property. Our white radiators are available in styles such as flat, lined, column, and tubed radiators, so you can choose the perfect style for each room.

In most cases, white radiators seamlessly blend into the background, don’t attract too much attention and their high reflectivity helps enhance their heat output efficiency. You’ll have plenty of choice as white radiators are the most popular and common type of radiator on the market.

As an added bonus, white radiators don’t show dust as much as darker finishes thanks to their light colour. They can also help brighten a room with their light, reflective colour.

Coloured Radiators

If you want to add a pop of colour to your room, take a look out at our coloured radiators. With a range of options available, from blues and greens to bright red and yellow, our collection of coloured radiators will be sure to add a touch of style and glamour to any space.

You could choose a radiator that matches the colour of the walls or a contrasting colour for maximum impact. We also have customisation options to help you find the perfect colour and design. Our coloured radiators are powder-coated for a durable and stylish finish.

Our coloured radiators are available in all the popular styles, including horizontal and vertical designs. If you’re limited on space, you may want a horizontal radiator to place under windows or counters.

 Anthracite Grey Radiators

For a trendy alternative to the traditional white radiator, you might want to consider anthracite grey radiators. They work exceptionally well in modern spaces and complement industrial and minimalist interiors. While slightly less reflective than white radiators, the grey colour still helps to enhance the efficiency of the heat output. Anthracite grey radiators also don’t show dust and fingerprints as much as chrome or glossy finishes.

Our anthracite grey radiators are available in a range of styles including flat panel, column, and tubed designs. You can choose the right style based on the size of your room, along with its insulation. It’s a good idea to place radiators near windows to counteract cold draughts and maximise warm air flow.

Chrome Radiators

Our chrome radiators are highly reflective, sleek, and modern. They’re a popular choice for bathrooms and kitchens thanks to their polished aesthetic and their resistance to moisture and corrosion. Their chrome plating provides an extra layer of protection against wear and corrosion, while the smooth, polished surface makes chrome radiators simple to wipe clean. They are also more resistant to dirt and dust build-up, although fingerprints and watermarks may be visible.

Chrome absorbs some heat, which means chrome radiators aren’t typically as efficient as a white or anthracite radiator of the same size. To compensate, you may need a slightly larger chrome radiator.

 Flat Front Panel Radiators

Flat front panel radiators are a stylish and efficient choice for modern homes. Their simple and sleek design perfectly blends with a minimalist interior, with no visible fins or ridges. Thanks to the lack of grooves and columns, there’s little dust buildup, which makes them easier to clean. You can simply wipe a cloth over the radiator to remove any dust or debris.

The slim profile of flat panel radiators makes them a great choice for small rooms. They also provide proficient heating, with consistent and even heat distribution. Our flat front panel radiators are available in single and double-panel versions for different heat outputs to suit rooms of various sizes. Single panel flat radiators are slimline and best for smaller rooms or as an additional radiator in a larger space. Meanwhile, double panel flat radiators provide more heat output and are ideal for larger rooms or areas that  need additional warmth.

Lined Front Panel Radiators

One of the main features of lined front panel radiators is the subtle grooves and ridges that add texture and depth. Along with providing a stylish finish, the grooves also lightly increase surface area to improve the radiator’s efficiency. Our flat fascia panel radiators come in a large range of sizes to suit various sized rooms and spaces.

It’s easy to install lined front panel radiators and the casing is secured with security fittings that prevent easy access, which is great for homes with small children and pets. Our vertical lined radiators are great for narrow rooms or hallways and provide both style and functionality without taking up too much space. Horizontal lined radiators are ideal for installation under windows or along long walls and they fit well in larger rooms.
