Column Radiators UK - FAQs
What is a Column Radiator?
If you’re here and are thinking to yourself “What is a Column Radiator?”
Not to worry – we’re here to help. Traditionally – but not exclusively – styled radiators, column radiators are some of the most popular radiators in the UK.
Classic column radiators were once the norm, but they are now available in more modern styles, such as vertical column radiators. Vertical column radiators come as either 2 column, 3 column or 4 column, which simply refers to the number of columns within each section of the radiator.
Are Column Radiators Good?
Column radiators are some of the best radiators available to buy – especially at Stelrad!
As well as their traditional design, enhancing the room of your choosing, they are also excellent at what they do – heating! Style and substance certainly intertwine with column radiators… which brings us to our next question.
Are Column Radiators Less Efficient?
Column radiators must be less efficient if they look so good, surely? Not a chance! Whether it’s our tall column radiators, 2 column radiators or 3 column radiators… the clue is in the column!
Column radiators have a larger surface area, as there is space between each column. This results in a process taking place where the air around each column is heated, resulting in a more efficient overall radiator. See our heat loss calculator to see which of our column radiators is right for you.
Do Column Radiators Need Feet?
Whether a column radiator needs feet is dependent on the design of model you decide to choose. If you decide that column radiators with feet would disrupt the ambience of your room, then not to worry. Many of Stelrad’s column radiators do not require feet. See our radiator size search tool to see which design and shape suits you.
How Do Column Radiators Work?
How column radiators work is a fairly simple and familiar process. All central heating radiators have hot water flowing through them and column radiators are no exception. Hot water flows through each column of the radiator, heats up the column and the surrounding air. This creates a convection current that spreads heat across the room. Simple!
Are column radiators fitted in the same way as standard radiators?
Column radiators are very straightforward to install, and a professional, experienced plumber will be able to efficiently fit your new column rad with no issues.
