What is a Type 22 Radiator?

A Type 22 Radiator, also known as a K2 Radiator, is one of the most popular radiator styles for British homes. Here at Stelrad, as a leading radiator manufacturer that has been producing Type 22 Radiators since 1936, we offer the widest range of radiator sizes in the UK, so you can be sure you’ll be getting a high-quality, high-performing, Type 22 convector radiator with us.

If you’re wondering what a Type 22 radiator is exactly, it’s a double panel double convector radiator, consisting of a front panel, a rear panel, and two rows of metal convector fins. The convector fins, located between the front and rear panels, are arranged in a zig-zag formation that help to increase the surface area of the radiator. The vertical layout of the convector fins helps push the air upwards through the radiator to circulate through the room. Our T22 radiators are made from stainless steel, providing strength, high-performance heat conductivity, and longevity, so it makes an efficient choice for anyone looking for a radiator up to the task of heating your room effectively.

The Differences Between Type 22 and Type 21 Radiators

The main difference between Type 21 radiators and a Type 22 radiator is that the Type 21 has one row of convector fins while the Type 22 has two rows. This extra row of fins provides the Type 22 with more surface area so it will produce more heat. Having an extra row also helps with the distribution of heat, so if you have a larger room, this extra heat power makes the Type 22 double panel double convector radiator a better choice. Also, in a room where the layout means there is limited wall space, such as in a kitchen or bathroom, and you must consider a smaller radiator, a radiator Type 22 can make up for this reduction in size.

Type 22 rads are also thicker than a Type 21, as the extra row of convector fins means that it extends further from the wall. In this case, you could opt for a Type 21 – however, opting for one of the slimline Type 22 radiators, such as the Ultra or Vertical Ultra, may work just as well. It’s best to check the depth measurement of the radiators to compare which is better for your room.

As double panel double convector radiators, Type 22 rads provide significantly higher heat output compared to T21, making them ideal for larger rooms and spaces with increased heating requirements. Their increased surface area ensures quicker and more efficient heating too, making your environment comfortably warm in no time.

These aren’t the only types available, with other options including K3 radiators (Type 33) that have 3 panels and 3 sets of convection fins for more powerful output, as well as K1 radiators (Type 11) that have 1 panel and 1 set of convection fins, ideal for smaller rooms. Which you choose will depend on the size and layout of your room.
