Thermostatic radiator valves, often referred to as a TRV, are energy efficient valves which self-regulate by sensing the temperature in a room and adjusting the temperature of the radiator accordingly. Once the desired temperature of a room is reached, a TRV valve will shut off to maintain the ideal heat and save you money on energy bills in the process.

Stelrad know exactly how much difference having a radiator TRV makes; offering a wide range so that every homeowner can pick out the best solution for themselves and enjoy a comfortable temperature in their home during even the chilliest of days.

All our TRV radiators come with simple assembly instructions so you can get your TRV valve up and running in no time at all, ready to embrace the benefits and enjoy the self-adjusting sensors. Many of our radiator TRV sets come all together in one handy box with full instructions, containing the following:

  • H block.
  • Design cover.
  • Valve adjustment key.
  • Thermostatic regulating valve (TRV)
  • 2 x ” – ” male to male reducer.
  • 2 x conical adaptors.
  • Valve adjustment key.
  • Seal to connect the H block to the central heating.

To ensure you can find a TRV that suits the aesthetic of your room, we stock TRV valves in chrome, white, brushed nickel, and antique brass. Designer TRV Valves

Take your TRV up to the next level by choosing RAS D2 – D, a clear market leader designed to bring revolutionary innovation into your home. Complete with a flow selectable revolver valve body, the new RAS-D2 radiator thermostats are the latest addition to the Danfoss TRV range. Their high-performance capabilities include a unique flow selectable bi-directional valve, reversible bi-directional angled pattern valve bodies, and your choice of subtle white with a chrome styling sensor or a chrome model to compliment designer radiators and towel rails.

In comparison to standard TRV radiators, opting for RAS D2 – D will add an extra touch to your home as you enjoy the benefits of a designer radiator or towel rail. The TRV valve bodies are reversible and bidirectional, including a flow-selectable feature to ensure trouble free installation without any risk of water hammer. These TRV valves are manufactured to the highest standards in factories assessed and certified by BSI against ISO 9001 / BS 5750. To guarantee their longevity, the TRV is manufactured from brass with chrome plating and the spindle in the gland seal is made of chrominium steel and works in a lifetime lubricated O-ring. For lifetime use, the complete gland assembly can be replaced without draining down the system if you choose to switch it out.

TRV FAQs

What is a TRV?

Standing for thermostatic radiator valves, a TRV is used to control the air temperature of a room by automatically adjusting the amount of hot water that enters the radiator they are attached to. Whether you want to create a different temperature in different rooms dependant on personal preferences or you just want to introduce a more cost-effective heating system, the addition of TRV radiators gives you full control.

How does a radiator TRV work?

The mechanism consists of a valve head which will either expand or contract as the temperature in a room changes, shifting a pin which sits in the valve body. In order to meet the desired temperature which you have pre-set, the valve will open or close to allow the hot water to enter the radiator and heat the room or to prevent the hot water from accessing the system. The main benefit of a TRV is their responsiveness, continually adapting to any temperature fluctuations so you can enjoy a consistent warmth in your home.

Are TRV radiators energy efficient?

By introducing heating controls into your home, the system will automatically kick in as and when needed, knocking off once your preferred temperature is met. Those who introduce a TRV have noticed significant savings on their energy bill, with the cost of heating drastically reducing for a more cost-effective solution that not only saves money, but keeps your home a comfortable temperature.

Which radiator valves should I use?

It is advisable to use a Thermostatic radiator valve and lock shield valve on radiators, certain radiators can be installed with a centre tap Thermostatic radiator valve and Lock shield valve combined, with many radiators requiring a single Thermostatic radiator valve and lock shield valve.
